Emmi Hilger currently lives in Chicago, IL, where she is the Artistic Director of Something Marvelous, a festival of magical realism.  Relationships are at the heart of every story she tells, but Emmi enjoys collaborating with playwrights to explore theatre's unique ability to inspire imagination.  For Something Marvelous, Emmi has directed The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl, References to Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot by José Rivera, the workshop of Koalas by J. Joseph Cox, Sunrise: Ardmore Beach by Hallie Palladino, and Sheltered by Laura Nessler. Keep an eye out for the 2016 season and the world premiere of Don't Look by Gina Doherty.

Recent directing credits also include Love in the Time of Bumblehive by Jeff Tabnick (Stage Left's Leapfest), Surface for Air by Robert Tenges and Pyrofuckingclastic Surge​ by Scott Barsotti (The Side Project), Sand Castles by John Green (RhinoFest), 10 Things by Scott Tobin (Collaboraction's Sketchbook), Ice Flow by John Green (Piccolo Theatre),The Lover by Harold Pinter which she co-produced in association with Walkabout Theater Company and Punk Grandpa, a one woman show by Laura Scruggs that has performed across the country. Emmi loves Chicago and has worked extensively on new plays with Chicago Dramatists, The Fine Print Theatre Company, Piccolo Theatre, 20% Theatre Company, Women's Theatre Alliance, The Arc Theatre, Pegasus Players, and Strangeloop Theatre. Emmi has recently joined The Fine Print Theatre Company as Associate Artistic Director.

Emmi is a proud graduate of Northwestern University where favorite performance credits include The Game of Love and Chance and The Irresistible Machine.  In Chicago, she has performed with The Side Project, Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, Stage Left Theatre, and the Library Theatre at Feltre, A Lighted Match Theatre Co., Rodez Productions, and Appetite Theatre.  Emmi spent one fabulous summer at Shawnee Summer Theatre in Indiana playing such roles as Emily in Our Town and Catherine in The Foreigner, and another wonderful summer at the Barn Theatre in Michigan doing tons of musical theatre.  Emmi spent her first two years of undergrad at Indiana University, where she was in the mainstage productions of Bacchai and Macbeth and acted as Managing Director for the University Players.
